Can I play DAoC on two computers using Internet Connection Sharing?

Internet Connection Sharing is feature built into Microsoft Operating Systems that enables you to configure your home computer network to share a single connection to the Internet. Many people use ICS as a software alternative to hardware routers in an effort to have two computers share one Internet connection. Please be aware that while you may play DAoC over an ICS connection, your in game performance will most likely take a significant hit. Also note that ICS can be tricky to set up and keep functioning properly. Our advice to all users who are in need of this solution is to pick up a hardware router such as the Linksys DSL/Cable model.

Characters and NPC's disappear within the game while playing. What could be wrong?

This is a common problem found almost exclusively with users of Black Ice Defender and PC-Cillin. It does matter what mode you have Black Ice set to. Normally the highest setting or second highest setting (Paranoid or Nervous) can produce the effects of no characters showing up or disappearing over time. Best bet is to set the server address in Black Ice as a trusted IP address or lower your firewall security setting down one notch. You do this by selecting Tools, then Edit BlackICE Settings, and switch to the Protection tab to lower your security setting and/or add the Camelot server address (which should appear as an attack IP address in your Intruder or Attack window about the same time you started the game in the MAIN BlackICE window). Add the IP address of the Camelot game server by hitting add and typing in the numerical IP address for the server and hit Apply then Ok. Log out of the game, and start back in again after completely shutting down DAoC. Users of PC-Cillin may want to disable this software altogether before playing.

I am constantly going link dead within Dark Age of Camelot. I am using a DSL or cable modem connection. Could my network card have anything to do with this?

For Windows 2000/XP users:

Right-click My Computer and select Properties. Next, click on the HARDWARE tab and the click on the DEVICE MANAGER option. Under the section for NETWORK ADAPTERS, right click your network card and select Properties. Under the advanced TAB under MEDIA TYPE, set the value option on the right to 10mb half duplex mode.

For Windows 9x/ME users:

Right-click My Computer and select Properties. Next, click on the DEVICE MANAGER option. Under the section for NETWORK ADAPTERS, right-click your network card and select properties. Under the advanced TAB under MEDIA TYPE, set the value option on the right to 10mb half duplex mode.

If you are using an onboard network card and have a PCI network card available to you, disabling the onboard network card and using a physical PCI network card has been known to solve the Link Dead issue. Please refer to your motherboard manual on how to disable your onboard network card.

What address can I use to ping a Dark Age of Camelot game server?

It's not possible for a normal user to ping our server directly. We have done this to prevent people from maliciously trying to crash our servers by flooding them with pings and other non-game-related requests for data. If you are trying to ping us to determine a trace route or a time check, use 206.112.64.6 as the final destination. That is our gateway IP address.

While playing, I may suddenly have a black screen with a message that says "hit ESC to continue". What has happened?

Anytime you lose connection with the game server you will be automatically logged out and you will see this screen. The loss of connection can occur on our network, your network or anywhere in between so keep that in mind when attempting to correct the problem.

If you find yourself at this screen hit ESC and attempt to log back in. A hiccup anywhere down the line can knock you offline for a minute and you will find that you can get back in the game immediately. At this point if you cannot log back in, exit from DAoC and attempt to access the Internet externally. If you cannot access the Internet then you should troubleshoot your Internet connection. If you are still online but not able to play DAoC you may be trying to log in during patch time.

Why is the connection latency in Shrouded Isles not noticeably better than in Dark Age of Camelot, when I either meet or exceed the minimum system requirements for Shrouded Isles?

First, please be sure to have the latency meter up and running within DAoC. You may do this by clicking on SHIFT-P within the game. Internet latency is ever changing and never predictable. What may seem like sudden lag due to the SI expansion may actually be an Internet connectivity issue unrelated to the expansion to help narrow down the problem at any given time you may download a program called VISUAL ROUTE from www.visualware.com . Once you have downloaded this program, please run a trace to the following IP address: 206.112.64.6 , which is our default gateway IP. After performing the IP trace, you will be given a visual representation as to where the latency problem may reside.

What is a firewall and how will it affect my playing of Dark Age of Camelot?

Firewalls create barriers in order to prevent unauthorized access to a network. A firewall is a system or group of systems that enforces a controlpolicy between two networks. Firewalls exist to welcome incoming traffic as well as to block traffic. Firewalls exist in both software and hardware form.

If you have a firewall installed on your system you may need to have the firewall grant access to Dark Age of Camelot. Please refer to your firewall manual for further instruction.
